Study Finds Kids Can't Hit Slow Pitches
You're throwing a ball for a toddler to smack with a plastic bat. You toss it gently, slowly, to make it easier. He just can't hit it.
It's because you throw too slowly, a new study finds.
Kids' brains aren't wired for slow motion.
"When you throw something slowly to a child, you think you're doing them a favor by trying to be helpful," said Terri Lewis, professor of psychology at McMaster University. "Slow balls actually appear stationary to a child."
Add a little speed to the pitch, Lewis and her colleagues suggest, and the child is able to judge its speed more accurately.
"Our brain has very few neurons that deal specifically with slow motion and many neurons that deal with faster motion," Lewis said. "Even adults are worse at slow speeds than they are at faster speeds."
Kids' neurons are immature, making the task even more challenging for them.

everyone knows you start a little leaguer with a barry zito curve on the outside corner, then you go high and tight with em randy johnson style... Now that you have them 0-2 you break out the tim wakefield knuckle ball. or shilling splitter if your trying to be artistic about it.
anyone seen the tralior for bad news bears.

I like this post.
A recent article sent out to us on people with ADD was just the opposite.
So what mega is saying could be true and be a hint at something many don't know.
Some with ADD can hit the crap out of a baseball, because their brain is in quad speed.
Take the same kid put them on ritalin, they can't hit the same speed pitch. Mentally and physically testing functions.
This was done to show the difference between the receptors in the brain on speed and ability to react.
One reason a person with ADD is more hesitate to make a quick response.
It takes longer for them to correctly adjust to what was ask vs what should be done or their response, or what should be done, because their brain is going at quad speed.
Hence the need for ritalin and other medications. Slow the attention area of the brain to concentration and focus.
Michael Jordan, Pete Rose...Will Smith
all have add, (Babe Ruth did also it was rumored).

I just copied and pasted boys, dont shoot the messenger.

"An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity."
-Martin Luther King Jr.
So does Mr Diets here.... ADD all the way baby..!!
Honestly think about it. How many people do you see. Stand there and try to kill a fast ball or slider, only to take a knuckle ball and never swing, till it is almost past them?
Actually it's pretty amazing at a few things the way we think we see it, and the way it is.
One reason when your in a traumatic event, most people will either question you quickly or slowly based on your responses.
Because your brain is going so fast and through so many things, it is nearly impossible to recall exact details.
Walk into a room sometime, one that you know, remove and write down what all you remember seeing and noticed about the room.
You'd be surprised at the things you leave out. And some may be major or some may be things you noticed for the first time.
It's interesting. But what mega posted it does seem to have some relevance. I know now many coaches, coaching p-nut to junior league have went back to pulling out the old hit and swing ball. Where it comes back to you just in time for you to reset. It reconditions you quicker, mentally and physically.
